Azerbaijani religious leader appointed co-president of global interfaith body
Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, head of the Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO), has been elected co-president of the global interfaith organisation Religions for Peace and appointed as a member of its World Council.
According to Caliber.Az, CMO confirmed the appointment to local media.
Pashazade’s election follows his previous roles on the board of the International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID) and within the Muslim Council of Elders, highlighting Azerbaijan’s growing international profile as a hub for civilisational and interfaith dialogue.
Religions for Peace, founded in 1970, is the world’s largest interfaith organisation dedicated to promoting peace.
At the World Council’s latest conference in Istanbul on July 29, 2025, Pashazade was elected co-president.
The organisation’s leader also sent a formal written message to the CMO acknowledging his appointment.
