Azerbaijani national serving for Ukraine dies in combat operations
An Azerbaijani national serving in the Ukrainian army was killed during combat operations in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Ruslan Akif oglu Aliyev (born in 1990), a serviceman of the Ukrainian Armed Forces of Azerbaijani descent, passed away on May 3, 2025, in Volchansk, Kharkiv Oblast, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
In the related tragedy, in April, another casualty from the conflict was Teymur Azizulla oglu Sadigov, a native of the village of Boyuk Kolatan in the Masalli district.
Since the large-scale war in Ukraine began in February 2022, over 60 ethnic Azerbaijanis serving in the Ukrainian army have been killed, according to the United Diaspora of Azerbaijanis of Ukraine.
At the start of the conflict, approximately 500,000 Azerbaijanis were living in Ukraine, around 100,000 of whom were citizens, the diaspora said, adding that ethnic Azerbaijanis continue to fight in the Ukrainian army.
