Azerbaijani сommunity in Luxembourg to open cultural centre

The growing Azerbaijani community in Luxembourg has prompted plans to establish a dedicated cultural center, according to representatives of the Luxembourg-Azerbaijan Friendship Association LuxAz.

Seymur Ahmadov, chairman of the organisation, said the initiative reflects increasing demand from the local Azerbaijani population, which has expanded significantly in recent years.

“There is a great need for such a centre, and not only among Azerbaijanis living in the Grand Duchy. Even before the opening, people came, asked when the centre would start operating and what it would do,” Ahmadov said.

He noted that LuxAz has been active since late 2024 but has so far operated without a permanent location. The opening date of the new centre has been deliberately aligned with Azerbaijan’s Independence Day.

Ahmadov stressed that the organisation aims to serve as both a cultural and business bridge between Azerbaijan and Luxembourg, strengthening ties between the two countries.

Sevinj Omerli, communications manager at LuxAz, said the centre will host a wide range of activities. These include language courses in Azerbaijani, French, and Luxembourgish, music classes such as piano and guitar, and IT courses focused on programming.

According to Omerli, more than 500 Azerbaijanis currently reside in Luxembourg, and the new facility is expected to become a hub for community events for both adults and children.

The centre’s first event will mark International Children’s Day on June 1.

“We also plan to organise exhibitions. And in the autumn, LuxAz plans to participate in a music festival, as well as organise a jazz forum ourselves,” Omerli added.
