Azerbaijani top judge supports expanding legal ties among Turkic states PHOTO
Chairman of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, Inam Karimov, led a delegation to the Conference of Supreme Courts of Turkic States held in Antalya, Türkiye, on May 8.
The Azerbaijani Supreme Court confirmed the participation of its delegation and highlighted the event’s importance for legal cooperation among the Turkic nations, Caliber.Az reports, citing domestic media.
In his address at the conference, Karimov underscored the significance of the latest gathering of the supreme judicial authorities of Turkic states convening on a single platform. He emphasised that this meeting holds special value in terms of strengthening cooperation based on shared values and a common legal heritage.
Karimov outlined the principal challenges currently facing judicial systems, stating that one of the major tasks in the modern period is to ensure the transparent and flexible delivery of justice. He stressed the importance of improving efficiency within the judiciary and broadening citizens’ access to justice.
He noted that the wide-ranging and progressive reforms carried out in Azerbaijan’s judicial and legal system in recent years are aimed precisely at these objectives. According to Karimov, these reforms serve to make the judiciary more effective and accessible, aligning with the shared priorities discussed at the conference.
Karimov also highlighted the importance of implementing more progressive and collaborative projects among the supreme courts of the Turkic states. He drew attention to the need for joint efforts in the training of young legal professionals and judges, as well as the adaptation of best practices from international experience to domestic systems.
At the conclusion of the conference, participants approved the Charter of the Conference of Supreme Courts of Turkic States, formalising the structure and principles guiding future cooperation.
During his visit, Inam Karimov also held bilateral meetings with Turkish judicial leaders. He met with Ömer Kerkez, President of the Supreme Court of Türkiye, and with Zeki Yiğit, President of the Council of State (Türkiye’s High Administrative Court). These meetings focused on deepening bilateral judicial cooperation and exploring opportunities for future collaboration between Azerbaijan and Türkiye’s top judicial bodies.
