Azercosmos to launch cutting-edge satellites, eyes global cooperation

24 April 2025 12:50

Azercosmos, Azerbaijan’s national space agency, is gearing up to deploy a new generation of satellite systems, marking a significant step forward in the country’s space ambitions.

The announcement was made by Dunay Badirkhanov, Acting Chair of the Board of Azercosmos, during his remarks at the Space Technology Conference (STC2025) held in Baku, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.

“These next-generation satellite systems will bring advanced capabilities across several domains,” Badirkhanov stated.

“They will deliver high-precision Earth observation, enhanced telecommunications services, and improved regional connectivity. We are also actively exploring participation in new international missions, particularly through joint initiatives with strategic partners such as Türkiye and other allied nations.”

The initiative underscores Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening its technological infrastructure and expanding its presence in the global space ecosystem. According to Badirkhanov, these advancements are not merely technical milestones but also diplomatic and strategic efforts aimed at fostering regional and global cooperation in space exploration.

Emphasizing the importance of collective progress, he added: “It is no longer feasible for any nation to make meaningful advancements in the space sector in isolation. True success hinges on a shared vision and collaborative engagement. This is precisely what STC2025 represents — a dynamic platform where dialogue evolves into concrete action, where partnerships are forged, and where the future of the global space industry is shaped collectively.”

The fourth edition of the Space Technology Conference – Central Eurasia (STC) convened leading national space agencies, satellite operators, and key industry stakeholders from across Central Eurasia alongside members of the global space community. The conference serves as a high-level platform for dialogue on the evolving space and satellite sector and its pivotal role in fostering sustainable socio-economic development throughout the region.

Following the resounding success of STC 2024 in Ankara, hosted by the Turkish Space Agency (TUA), the event now continues its regional journey to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, where it is hosted by Azercosmos. This itinerant gathering underscores the growing importance of regional collaboration in shaping the future of the space industry.

The STC will delve into a series of critical themes shaping the future of the space and satellite industry. Key sessions will explore topics such as “Connectivity in Central Eurasia: The Role of Satellite Communications,” “Innovation and Investment in the Space Industry,” “Earth Observation for Sustainable Regional Development,” “Emerging Technologies Driving Space Sector Growth,” and “Satellite Solutions for Regional Challenges.”

The two-day event is expected to convene over 400 high-level participants from 112 organizations across 35 countries, spanning the Middle East, Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa. This diverse gathering reflects the conference’s status as a truly global platform for exchange, collaboration, and strategic dialogue.

In parallel with STC2025, Baku also hosted the 4th meeting of the heads of space agencies from member states of the Organization of Turkic States — including Türkiye, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan — as well as observer states Hungary and Turkmenistan. This high-level summit underscores the increasing commitment of Turkic nations to foster collective progress and deepen cooperation in the space sector.
