Bahrain arrests four more people over showing sympathy for Iran

Authorities in Bahrain have arrested four more individuals accused of publishing videos related to Iranian attacks, including content that authorities say expressed sympathy toward Iran’s leadership, the country’s Interior Ministry said on March 4.

According to a report by CNN, the ministry said the arrests were linked to the dissemination of online material connected to the attacks carried out by Iran.

In a statement, the Interior Ministry said that publishing such content “contributes to misleading the public and spreading fear among citizens and residents,” warning that it could undermine national security and public order.

The detentions are part of a broader crackdown by Bahraini authorities on social media posts that they believe support what officials describe as “Iranian aggression.” Authorities have characterised such actions as a form of “betrayal of the nation.”

Bahrain is governed by a Sunni Muslim ruling establishment, while the majority of the country’s population is Shiite. Members of the Shiite community have frequently expressed support for Iran, a factor that has long contributed to political and social tensions in the kingdom.
