Bahrain bans publication of military information amid regional tensions
The Bahrain Defence Force has announced a comprehensive ban on the photography, publication, or redistribution of information regarding its military operations, unit positions, and the movement of vehicles and equipment.
The measure aims to safeguard national security and protect Bahrain’s vital interests in light of “exceptional circumstances” and what authorities described as “blatant Iranian aggression,” BNA reports.
The prohibition, issued under Article 17 of the Military Judiciary Law of 2002 and Article 135 of the Penal Code of 1976, applies to all images, videos, recordings, or information relating to military installations, operations, or defensive measures. It also encompasses unverified or fabricated content, including material produced using modern technologies, pertaining to attacks or acts of aggression targeting the Kingdom, whether disseminated through traditional media, digital platforms, or social media, directly or indirectly.
The Bahrain Defence Force stressed that the ban covers any activity that could compromise national security, facilitate targeting of military sites or strategic locations, or interfere with ongoing defensive operations. Authorities warned that violations would constitute a breach of Bahraini law and carry legal consequences, including prosecution.
The Defence Force urged all citizens and residents to uphold their national responsibilities, follow official instructions, and obtain information only from authoritative sources. People were also advised to avoid military sites and convoys to support national efforts in maintaining the Kingdom’s security, stability, and the safety of its citizens and residents.
“The Bahrain Defence Force emphasises that any violation of the provisions of this statement constitutes an explicit breach of the laws and regulations in force in the Kingdom and will render those responsible liable to legal accountability and prosecution in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
