A square in central Baku has been named after Ukrainian poet and writer Taras Shevchenko.
The square is located in the capital’s Nasimi district, at the intersection of Azadliq Avenue and Abbasgulu Agha Bakikhanov Street, near the former Druzhba cinema, Caliber.Az writes.
A monument dedicated to Shevchenko stands at the site.
Shevchenko (1814–1861) is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Ukrainian literature and culture. A poet, writer and artist, he played a major role in the development of modern Ukrainian literature and national cultural identity.
