Beijing demands from Washington to stop "military collusion" with Taiwan's army
Zhang Youxia, vice chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, has said that the United States should stop “military cooperation” with Taiwan's army.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Youxia made the remarks during a meeting with US Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Jake Sullivan, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“The issue of Taiwan affects the most key interests of our country. The Chinese side demands that the United States stop military collusion with Taiwan, stop arming it and spreading false rumours related to it,” he said.
As Zhang Yuxia clarified, the Taiwan issue is ‘the political foundation of fundamentals in Sino-US relations, the No. 1 red line that cannot be crossed.’
He emphasised that Beijing has always strived to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and these are incompatible with isolating the island from the rest of the country.
“It is the mission and duty of the Chinese People's Liberation Army to resolutely confront the supporters of Taiwan's so-called independence and promote unification,” the deputy chairman of the Central Military Commission stressed.
"We have a duty to resist the reckless provocations of separatist forces."
