Beijing vows retaliation as Trump imposes sky-high tariffs on Chinese goods
Chinese authorities will take decisive measures in response to the 104% tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, said the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian.
“We will continue to take decisive and effective measures to protect our legitimate rights and interests,” he emphasized at a briefing, commenting on the protectionist measures of the White House, which intends to maintain tariffs on Chinese products at the 104% level, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The diplomat added that Beijing will not tolerate actions that infringe upon China's sovereignty, development interests, and security.
On April 2, Trump announced the imposition of tariffs on products from 185 countries and regions, setting a minimum rate of 10%. For individual countries, he established specific barriers, including a 34% tariff on China. In retaliation, Beijing will impose similar restrictions on all American goods starting on April 10. Later, the U.S. president stated that he would levy a 104% tariff on Chinese products until Chinese authorities agree to a trade deal with the United States.
