Belarus leader hails China as pillar of BRICS
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has highlighted China as the key pillar supporting the BRICS and Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Speaking in an interview with a Chinese TV channel during the BRICS summit in Kazan, Lukashenko emphasized China’s crucial role in both organizations, Caliber.Az reports referring to Belarusian state-run media.
"It is a great benefit to have China in the SCO and BRICS. China serves as the primary pillar of this organization, and BRICS should be proud of its collaboration with China," Lukashenko stated.
He described BRICS as a young organization still in the process of development and adaptation, noting that in the current turbulent global environment, China's involvement is invaluable for the future of BRICS. He emphasized China’s rapid progress, calling it "definitely the world's leading country."
Lukashenko also praised India’s growing influence within BRICS, calling it another significant force alongside China. "These are giant locomotives of development. And let’s not forget the Russian Federation, a global treasure trove of resources," he added.
The BRICS summit in Kazan, held from October 22-24, has introduced new members, expanding the group to include Egypt, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia, in addition to the founding members Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
This year's summit, chaired by Russia under the theme "Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security," will address key topics such as politics, security, economics, finance, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
