Belgium considers sending several F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine
The Belgian Defence Ministry is conducting an inspection to find out whether the state can send several F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
The announcement came from the country's Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, according to VRT News.
He said the defence ministry should assess the condition of the jets.
"We have asked the Ministry of Defence to check whether our aircraft have fully reached the end of their service life. We have to look at all options. If they are still useful in some way, we should definitely look into it. Maybe Ukraine is only using the Belgian aircraft for training. Then the requirements are different," De Croo explained.
According to VRT News, the Belgian Defence Ministry has been talking about the impossibility of supplying fighter jets to Kyiv. However, the ruling party has recently been calling for two to four aircraft to be sent to Ukraine.
The portal said Belgium has only 45 units of F-16 fighter jets, some of which may be replaced by the F-35 in the future.
