Belgium’s FM’s plane makes emergency landing
Belgium’s Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot was unable to attend the European Union–Latin America summit in Colombia.
According to Belga agency, the reason was technical issues with the plane carrying the Belgian delegation.
The Belgian Foreign Ministry reported that the aircraft made an emergency landing on the island of Saint Martin (Lesser Antilles) due to an engine malfunction. Earlier, the plane had already turned back over the UK because of fuel problems.
As a result of the incident, Minister Prévot will miss a number of scheduled bilateral meetings during the summit.
The ministry expressed concern over the situation, noting that such incidents “undermine Belgium’s authority and its ability to participate in international forums.”
