Biden promises continued military support to Israel "until they get rid of Hamas"
US President Joe Biden reiterated his support for Israel, saying that will continue to provide military assistance to the Jewish nation.
Biden’s comment came as he hosted a Hanukkah event in the White House on Monday. “The US will continue to provide military assistance to Israel until they get rid of Hamas, but we have to be careful — they have to be careful. The whole world’s public opinion can shift overnight, we can’t let that happen,” Firstpost reports citing the White House YouTube channel.
“As I said after the [October 7] attack, my commitment to the safety of the Jewish people, and the security of Israel, its right to exist as an independent Jewish state, is unshakeable,” the president added.
Biden said that Jews would not be safe anywhere if it weren’t for Israel.
Earlier on Monday, a group of protestors staged a demonstration outside the White House as nearly 20 women describing themselves as “Jewish elders” chained their bodies to the fence guarding the White House. Wearing black T-shirts that read “Not In Our Name,” the women chanted “Biden, Biden, pick a side! Cease-fire not genocide!” while reading the names of those killed in Gaza, along with their ages.
He said assistance to Israel would continue until Hamas was routed out but warned that public opinion could shift in grave ways for Israel’s security.
“We have to be careful,” Biden said. “They have to be careful. The whole world’s public opinion can shift overnight. We can’t let that happen.”
Biden said the United States would continue to work to free hostages still held in Gaza, speed humanitarian aid to Palestinians and “emphasize to our Israeli friends we need to protect civilian life."
