Biden slammed for telling 6-year-old girl “I love your ears”
Joe Biden has again raised eyebrows by telling a six-year-old girl 'I love your ears' at a Thanksgiving event.
The President, who turns 81 on Monday, approached the child, named Catherine, and said her ears were 'really cool' at the meet at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia, Daily Mail reports.
He bent down and almost touched the youngster during the “Friendsgiving” at the naval base ahead of the holiday later this week.
She appeared to be wearing a headband with pointed ears at the time of the exchange.
Social media viewers brand Biden “creepy” and said his demeanour was “disturbing” during the impromptu exchange.
It is not the first time the president has been questioned for interactions with youngsters, with him most recently pretending to eat a child's ear in the summer.
'I love your ears!', Biden said reaching down to a girl who was wearing a headband with leopard ears, almost touching them.
“I love 'em. They're really cool! What's your name?” the president asked. “Catherine”, the little girl responded.
“What a beautiful name,” Biden said. “That's my mommy's name. How old are you? 17?” he joked. “Six!” the youngster replied shyly.
The reaction on social media found Biden's reaction “disturbing”, “creepy” and “cringe”.
Biden and First Lady Jill visited the packed auditorium at Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads to introduce a new film centred around the early life of Roald Dahl's fictional eccentric chocolatier, Willy Wonka.
He joked to the many youngsters in the crowd: “I like kids more than adults” and added “I wish I could stay and watch Wonka with you.”
The Bidens helped serve dinner with service members from the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and the USS Gerald R. Ford at Norfolk Naval Station.
“You literally are the backbone, the spine, the spine of this nation,” the president said. “Only 1 per cent of you, that's all, that protects the 99 per cent of us.”
As the event was wrapping up, attendees presented Biden with a birthday cake ahead of November 20.
