Bishkek apartment fire: Residents jump from windows as blaze spreads PHOTO / VIDEO
A major fire broke out in a multi-storey apartment building on Aitmatov Avenue in Bishkek, prompting a dramatic evacuation.
Emergency services responded swiftly, with officers from the city’s Patrol Police using a crane to help evacuate residents, Caliber.Az reports per Kyrgyz media.
During the incident, three residents panicked and jumped from windows. Two young women were among them: one sustained a fractured vertebra and a head injury and was hospitalised in stable condition, while the other suffered a leg fracture but refused hospital treatment.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed that 50 people were evacuated and that four fire units were deployed to tackle the blaze, which affected approximately 800 square metres of the building.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, which has left the community shaken.
