Bloomberg: Hunger has become "enduring reality" for US citizens
The growing hunger epidemic in the US has evolved from a temporary problem into an enduring reality.
This opinion was expressed by Bloomberg columnist Amanda Little.
According to her, as the US economy deteriorates, more and more citizens are finding it difficult to take care of their families. In 2021, for example, one in six Americans sought help from food banks, that's 53 million people, up from 40 million in 2019.
Although the pandemic is on the wane, the number of hungry US residents continues to rise, Little noted.
Food prices have risen 12 per cent since last year. This is the sharpest increase since 1979, the reporter said. Financial instability, supply chain disruptions, and declining grain imports will continue for the foreseeable future, Little wrote.
