Lithuanian border guards intercept drone from Belarus PHOTO
Lithuanian border guards successfully intercepted and downed a drone that crossed into the country from Belarus during the night of July 16, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred in the Šalčininkai district, where officers from the Tribonis border post detected the sound of an approaching unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) near the Belarusian border, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Upon visual confirmation of the drone entering Lithuanian airspace, patrol units deployed anti-drone equipment to neutralise the threat.
The interception tool caused the UAV to lose control mid-flight, resulting in it spinning and flipping before crashing to the ground. The wreckage was later located approximately four kilometers inside Lithuanian territory near the village of Vilkoniai.
According to the State Border Guard Service (VSAT), the downed drone was equipped with GPS technology and is believed to be linked to smuggling operations frequently conducted using such aircraft.
