Washington’s World War II memorial vandalised with graffiti

The World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., has been vandalised with graffiti and soap poured into its fountains, prompting an investigation by U.S. Park Police.

Neon-colored graffiti was found on the memorial, while one of its fountains was filled with soap bubbles. Authorities closed part of the site as crews worked to remove the damage. The U.S. Department of the Interior condemned the incident and said investigators were working to identify those responsible, Caliber.Az reports. 

U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the vandalism in a post on Truth Social, calling it a “greater insult” to the American service members who died in World War II. He also referred to the perpetrators as “animals” and said authorities were pursuing them.

"We are on their trail! Where do these animals come from???" he wrote.
