Poland records largest EU drop in Ukrainian refugees in June

The number of Ukrainian refugees in Poland fell by 6,335 in June 2026, marking the largest monthly decline among European Union countries, according to Eurostat data cited by Polish media.

Poland remains the EU’s second-largest host of people who fled Ukraine following Russia’s full-scale invasion. However, the latest figures show a notable reduction in the number of Ukrainian citizens receiving temporary protection in the country.

The decline comes amid strained relations between Warsaw and Kyiv and reports of increasing tensions between Polish and Ukrainian communities.

The reasons behind the drop have not been established. Possible factors could include refugees returning to Ukraine, moving to other countries or changes in their legal or residency status.
