Bloomberg: Italy considers early parliamentary elections
23 June 2026 18:31
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is considering holding general elections as early as April, several months ahead of the legally scheduled deadline, Bloomberg reports, citing sources.
The outlet said Meloni is concerned about a potential decline in her approval ratings if voting is held later.
According to Bloomberg, she also believes elections at the end of 2027 would leave the next government too little time to prepare the national budget.
It noted that the prime minister has already discussed the option with the office of President Sergio Mattarella, who is responsible for dissolving parliament and calling elections.
