Bloomberg: Trump may boost US defence spending
US President Donald Trump could unveil a budget plan for the next fiscal year as early as April 3, which is expected to prioritise a significant increase in defence spending, according to the latest report by Bloomberg.
Trump is preparing to present a budget for fiscal year 2027 in which his party’s midterm election agenda will be centred on a major buildup of defence capabilities.
According to the report, the president may reduce funding for several government agencies, redirecting the savings toward defence needs.
However, the plan carries considerable political risks.
Even Trump’s supporters within the Republican Party may object to proposals to cut funding for healthcare and scientific institutions, the journalists note.
