Bloomberg: Trump, Xi to hold phone talks on tariffs and TikTok
U.S. President Donald Trump will hold a phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday, September 19, to discuss tariffs and the future of the social media platform TikTok in America.
Bloomberg reports that “The call Friday between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping promises to determine the fate of TikTok — and potentially ease trade tensions between the world’s two biggest economies.”
The two sides will discuss a framework agreement, presented earlier this week, on transferring control of TikTok’s U.S. operations from its Chinese parent company ByteDance Ltd. to a consortium of American investors.
According to Bloomberg, the call will be the first between the leaders since June, as both countries remain “locked in a standoff over trade restrictions.”
