A missile strike on Kharkiv’s Kyivskyi district, carried out the previous day, completely destroyed a five-storey residential building in the city centre.
The attack sparked a fire and caused extensive damage to nearby buildings, vehicles and urban infrastructure. Emergency services have been working at the scene since the first hours after the strike.
the city was hit by two ballistic missile strikes. Most of the injured sustained blast injuries, wounds from shattered glass and severe stress reactions.
According to Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, during search and rescue operations, the body of a three-year-old boy was found under the rubble. It later emerged that the body of a woman was also recovered from beneath the debris and, according to preliminary information, she may be the child’s mother. At least two deaths have therefore been confirmed.
Debris removal and searches for possible additional victims are continuing at the site. Alongside State Emergency Service units, medics, dog handlers and law enforcement officers, volunteers and humanitarian organisations are actively involved, helping to deal with the aftermath of the destruction, supporting rescuers and assisting residents of damaged buildings.
