Boeing awarded $2.8 billion contract to develop advanced US strategic satellites
Boeing Co announced that it has secured a $2.8 billion contract from the US government to design and manufacture two cutting-edge satellites, with options to extend the program by an additional two units.
The satellites form part of the Evolved Strategic Satellite Communications (ESS) program, a critical initiative aimed at enhancing the nation’s space-based nuclear command, control, and communications capabilities, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
ESS is designed to ensure secure, reliable, and persistent connectivity for the US president and joint strategic global forces, reinforcing the backbone of America’s strategic deterrence.
Under the terms of the contract, Boeing is scheduled to deliver the first satellite by 2031. Once operational in geostationary orbit, the ESS satellites will provide continuous global coverage to strategic military operators, ensuring seamless communications even in the most challenging operational environments.
