Boeing sends expert team to India after Air India Dreamliner crash
A team of experts from American aerospace giant Boeing has arrived in Ahmedabad, India to assist in the investigation of the June 12 crash involving a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operated by Air India.
The ill-fated aircraft had undergone comprehensive technical maintenance in June 2023, with its next major inspection scheduled for December 2025, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Authorities are now examining whether any undetected issues may have contributed to the crash. In the wake of the incident, India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered intensified safety checks on all Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners currently operating within India.
This directive affects not only Air India but also other Indian carriers flying similar models. India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) confirmed on June 15 that both flight data recorders from the crashed Air India flight have been recovered from the crash site. The data retrieved from the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder is expected to play a crucial role in determining the cause of the tragedy.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, en route to Britain’s Gatwick Airport with 242 people onboard, crashed seconds after take-off on June 12, erupting into a fireball as it slammed into a medical college hostel. The crash marks the deadliest aviation disaster globally in over a decade. Only one person survived the crash.
