Border guards detain Iraqi national attempting to enter Azerbaijan By boat/PHOTO

The Coast Guard of Azerbaijan's State Border Service spotted an unidentified vessel moving northward from Iran in the southern part of the Caspian Sea, approximately 1.8 miles offshore on August 1 at 04:30.

A patrol ship was promptly dispatched to intercept the intruder. Coastal control units were alerted, and immediate measures were taken to secure the coastline, the State Border Service told Caliber.Az.

As a result, Iraqi national Mahdi Salih Faizi, born in 1992, was apprehended for attempting to violate the border and enter Azerbaijan by boat. Ongoing operational and investigative measures are underway.
