Border talks with Azerbaijan continue despite perceptions of delay, says Armenian official
Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan has clarified that the process of border delimitation between Armenia and Azerbaijan remains active and ongoing, despite perceptions to the contrary.
“There are contacts, but the process is quite complicated. Accordingly, certain preparatory works are needed, which are actually underway now. But I would not give assessments on whether the process has slowed down or accelerated,” Grigoryan said, emphasizing the complexity and scale of the task, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
He explained that border delimitation involves extensive and multifaceted efforts, which both parties are currently engaged in. While no specific date has yet been set for the next meeting of the delimitation commissions, an approved framework document is in place to regulate and guide the interaction between the sides.
Baku and Yerevan started the process of delimitation of their border on April 23, 2024 with the installation of the first border markers based on geodetic measurements. As part of the delimitation and demarcation process, Armenia agreed to vacate four Azerbaijani border villages it has occupied since the early 1990s, when the two countries fought a bloody war over the Karabakh (Garabagh) region of Azerbaijan.
