BRICS calls on Israel to withdraw troops from Lebanon
BRICS foreign ministers have called on Israel to withdraw its forces from Lebanese territory, according to a joint statement issued after a meeting in New Delhi.
The ministers stressed the importance of upholding the ceasefire agreement and condemned what they described as continued violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“They called on Israel to respect the terms agreed with the Government of Lebanon and to withdraw its occupying forces from the entirety of Lebanese territory, including five positions in southern Lebanon where they remain deployed,” the statement said.
The group also highlighted the role of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), urging all parties to ensure the safety and freedom of movement of UN personnel and to respect the inviolability of UN facilities.
The statement condemned any attacks on UNIFIL personnel and installations, saying such actions constitute a violation of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
