Britain announces fresh £20 million in humanitarian aid for Gaza

13 October 2025 09:56

The United Kingdom has announced a new £20 million ($27 million) aid package aimed at providing water, sanitation, and hygiene assistance to civilians in Gaza.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer made the announcement on October 12 upon his arrival in Egypt for a world leaders’ summit dedicated to ending the ongoing conflict, as per foreign media.

According to the British government, the funds will be channelled through UNICEF, the World Food Programme, and the Norwegian Refugee Council. The assistance is intended to reach people suffering from famine, malnutrition, and the spread of disease.

The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas continued to hold in Gaza for a fourth consecutive day on October 13, marking the initial phase of a broader agreement aimed at ending the two-year war.

London also announced plans to host a three-day international summit focused on Gaza’s reconstruction. The event will bring together government officials, private sector leaders, and development finance representatives, including participants from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the World Bank.

The British government noted that, in the current financial year, it has already provided £74 million in humanitarian support to Palestine, which it formally recognised as a state last month.
