UK's new Foreign Secretary Miliband reaffirms support for Ukraine

Britain's new Foreign Secretary, Ed Miliband, has set out the government's key foreign policy priorities in his first major statement since taking office, reaffirming continued support for Ukraine and pledging to work towards resolving the conflict with Iran and ending the war in the Gaza Strip.

He also identified strengthening the UK's strategic partnership with the European Union while maintaining close ties with the United States, and reinforcing the role of international organisations, including NATO and the United Nations, as the country's key foreign policy objectives.

Miliband said London would work to reduce tensions in the Middle East, seek a resolution to the conflict with Iran, support freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and promote a lasting settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict while ensuring Israel's security.
