British TikTokker faces possible death penalty in Dubai murder case
Dubai authorities have charged British social media influencer Brooke George with premeditated murder, a charge that could carry the death penalty by firing squad if she is convicted, according to The Times.
The outlet said George, 23, who has nearly 100,000 followers on TikTok, is currently being held at Bur Dubai prison.
The charges are related to the death of a British citizen with whom she was reportedly in a relationship.
The pair met online, and George travelled to Dubai twice.
She claims that during her second visit, the man began physically abusing her.
During one of the alleged assaults, she reportedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him multiple times, resulting in his death.
Reports indicate that George was arrested several days ago while attempting to leave the country, although details of the arrest have only now become public.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said it is closely monitoring the case involving George.
