Brussels eyes direct investments in Australia’s critical minerals sector

The European Union is exploring direct investments in Australian mining companies to ensure stable supplies of critical minerals, including rare earth elements, EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic announced at a press conference in Melbourne.

Sefcovic indicated that the initiative could involve EU financing bodies, such as the European Investment Bank, taking equity stakes in mining firms, Bloomberg reports.

Additionally, he noted that European governments may pursue offtake agreements with Australian producers to further secure the supply chain.
