Brussels says EU about to face worst-case scenario for heating season
Chief Spokesman for the European Commission (EC) Eric Mamer has said that the EU is preparing for winter, based on the "worst-case scenario", which envisages a complete cessation of gas supplies to European territory by Russia’s energy giant Gazprom.
He made the statement at a briefing in Brussels on July 19, Gazeta.Ru informs.
This is how he commented on the statement of the EC for the budget by Johannes Hahn, according to which the EC does not expect the resumption of fuel supplies from Russia to Europe via Nord Stream after the planned repair work on this pipeline is completed.
“We are working on the worst possible scenario, this scenario assumes that Gazprom will no longer supply gas to Europe ... We are preparing for the winter period based on this scenario,” Mamer said.
