An explosion in Cajibío, in Colombia’s Cauca department in the south of the country, has left at least 13 people dead and more than 38 injured, according to local authorities.
Among the injured are five children, regional Health Minister Carolina Camargo said, as reported by the Associated Press.
According to media reports, an explosive device struck a bus traveling along the El Túnel section of the Pan-American Highway, which connects the cities of Cali and Popayán.
Images published from the scene show the vehicle heavily damaged, with its roof and windows destroyed, as well as damage to the roadway.
Cauca Governor Octavio Guzmán said he is coordinating emergency assistance and has convened a national security council.
