Calvin Harris sets Guinness World Record with 1.6 million-fan show

Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris has secured a place in the record books after an estimated 1.6 million people attended his performance in São Paulo, Brazil, earlier this year.

The Dumfries-born musician was recognised by Guinness World Records (GWR) for the largest attendance for a DJ set by a single artist, BBC writes. 

Harris celebrated the achievement on social media, describing the event as a “truly insane day” that, he said, could only have happened in Brazil.

His headline performance took place on February 8, 2026, when Harris performed from a carnival float while wearing a Brazilian football shirt bearing the name “Calvinho” on the back.

According to GWR, his appearance turned São Paulo into “one massive street party”. The organisation said reports indicated that the huge crowd forced the closure of Rua da Consolação, while some fans reportedly fainted in the heat.

Harris performed a set featuring many of his biggest hits as crowds filled the streets around the event.

The latest achievement adds to a series of records and accolades Harris has previously received from GWR.

In 2014, he was presented with a certificate for the most top-10 hits on the UK singles chart from a single album. His 18 Months album produced nine top-10 singles.

GWR also lists Harris as the highest-paid DJ in a single year, based on his earnings between June 2015 and June 2016.

The record book noted that Harris' São Paulo crowd was comparable in size to the audience at Madonna's free concert on Copacabana Beach in May 2024, held as part of her Celebration Tour.
