Cambodia warns of possible new attacks by Thai military

Cambodian security sources are warning of potential new Thai military strikes along the border.

Thai soldiers plan to carry out an attack in the Thmar Da and O’Phluk Damrey areas of Pursat Province on 18 November, Khmer Times reports, citing sources.

The outlet noted that Cambodian authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and if these reports are verified — with early indicators strongly pointing in that direction — Thailand will have committed a grave breach of the October 26 Joint Declaration, the U.S.-brokered peace accord negotiated with the direct involvement of President Donald Trump.

Such an action would go far beyond a routine border incident. It would amount to a deliberate, premeditated breach of a ceasefire Thailand voluntarily endorsed.

It would also undermine Bangkok’s commitment to the international community — particularly to the United States, which invested significant diplomatic capital to avert further violence and stabilise one of Southeast Asia’s most sensitive frontiers.

“For Thailand’s own dignity, security, and future, Bangkok must step back from the brink—before it makes a mistake that will echo through history,” the newspaper wrote.

On 12 November, Thai forces shelled the Cambodian border village of Prey Chan in Banteay Meanchey Province, killing one local resident and seriously injuring three others.

The escalation between the two countries came a day after Thailand unilaterally suspended a peace declaration brokered last month by US President Donald Trump.

Bangkok took this step after Thai servicemen were wounded by an anti-personnel mine during a border patrol, blaming Cambodia for planting it.
