Canada announces nearly $600 million in military aid to Ukraine

11 December 2024 17:39

The Canadian parliament has decided to allocate 764 million Canadian dollars (approximately $587 million) for military aid to Ukraine.

This amount is part of a large additional spending package that includes 21 billion Canadian dollars (approximately $14.4 billion) for various purposes, among them strengthening national defence, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.

Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair specified that the funds would be used for ammunition, training of the Ukrainian military and other necessary means.

In addition to military support, the document envisages 400 million Canadian dollars ($307 million) of financial aid to Ukraine through the IMF special account and 45 million Canadian dollars ($35 million) for humanitarian demining and strengthening cyber security.

Canada has been a significant supporter of Ukraine since the Russian full-scale invasion. Since February 2022, the country has provided $5.4 billion in budgetary assistance—the highest per capita support globally.

Canada has provided eight Leopard 2A4 tanks, several armored combat support vehicles, hundreds of armored patrol vehicles, and M-777 howitzers.

In September, it pledged a NASAMS air defense system to Ukraine, expected to arrive in early 2025.

Canada has also committed to supplying 80,840 CRV-7 rocket motors and 1,300 warheads for them.

In November, Canada announced that NASAMS systems purchased with Canadian funding had been delivered to Ukraine.
