Canada to send thousands rocket engines to Ukraine

13 June 2024 16:59

Canada will send Ukraine over 2,000 CRV7 rocket engines, as well as small arms ammunition and remote control systems.

The Canadian Ministry of Defense announced that Canada will send the first batch of over 2,000 CRV7 rocket engines to Ukrainian forces. These engines were previously decommissioned, Caliber.Az reports, citing The Canadian Press.

Earlier, the Canadian government stated its intention to begin engine shipments in the coming weeks.

Canada has more than 83,000 such rocket engines that are no longer in use.

During the Ramstein format meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair announced that his country will also provide 29 Nanuk remote weapon systems and over 130,000 rounds of small arms ammunition.

The CRV7 is a Canadian-developed 70 mm aviation rocket with folding fins. It is designed for strikes against ground targets. These rockets are also considered Cold War weapons, as they were developed back in the 1980s.

CRV7 rocket engines can be used to arm the helicopters currently in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Additionally, specialized media note that CRV7 can be adapted for ground launches.

Canada has supported Ukraine by providing weapons, financial, and humanitarian aid. Canada has also joined in training Ukrainian soldiers.

It was reported that Canada is set to send four armoured combat vehicles for evacuation of the wounded to Ukraine. The Ukrainian army should receive 50 such vehicles overall.
