Canada to transfer NASAMS missile system to Ukraine
Canada is set to transfer a NASAMS surface-to-air missile system to Ukraine in early 2025, Minister of National Defence Bill Blair said.
The NASAMS system, produced by Raytheon and Kongsberg in the United States, is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Following production, one of these systems purchased by Canada for Ukraine will be delivered to Kyiv early in 2025.
In January 2023, Canada committed to acquiring NASAMS systems for Ukraine with a purchase valued at 406 million Canadian dollars (approximately USD303 million).
However, delays in the funding transfer and approval by the US Congress extended the timeline for delivery, with the final approval coming in May of the same year. Blair previously criticized the US for delays in the delivery process.
