Canadian MP blasts Trump as “malignant narcissistic slug”
Canadian MP Charlie Angus has described US President Donald Trump as a “malignant narcissistic slug”, asserting that his divisive rhetoric and controversial policies served as a catalyst for national cohesion in Canada.
Angus said that Trump had forced Canadians to set aside their internal divisions and unite in defense of the rule of law and democracy, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The veteran lawmaker added that Trump’s stance against equality and inclusion only reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to those very principles. He emphasised that Canada would always remain a country committed to fairness and inclusion.
Tensions between Ottawa and Washington escalated after Trump previously suggested that Canada could become the 51st state of the United States — a remark that sparked outrage across the country. In response, some Canadians reportedly began selling property in the US and returning home, unwilling to live under a leader who proposed such ideas. In retaliation, Canada imposed mirror tariffs on US goods, including higher duties on automobile imports, while also rolling out incentives for domestic manufacturing to reduce economic dependency and protect Canadian jobs.
Although Trump later retracted his remarks about annexing Canada, stating that the US doesn't need Canadian timber or other resources, he doubled down on his “America First” narrative, touting the arrival of a new "Golden Age of America."
