Canadian PM Mark Carney arrives in Kyiv on Ukraine’s Independence Day
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney arrived in Kyiv on Sunday, August 24, Ukraine’s Independence Day.
Announcing his visit on X, Carney wrote: “On this Ukrainian Independence Day, and at this critical moment in their nation’s history, Canada is stepping up our support and our efforts towards a just and lasting peace for Ukraine,” per Caliber.Az.
Earlier, Carney’s office had outlined his European tour, which includes stops in Poland, Germany and Latvia.
Carney is expected to announce more details of the $2-billion aid package Canada pledged at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alta., earlier this year.
The trip comes as efforts to broker a peace between Ukraine and Russia intensify.
Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump hosted a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska to discuss the settlement of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and later hosted Zelenskyy and other European leaders at the White House.
