Canadian, Ukrainian leaders to meet at G7 summit in June
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have agreed to meet at the upcoming G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, in June, the prime minister's office announced.
During a conversation on April 30, President Zelenskyy extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Carney on his election, Caliber.Az reports.
The prime minister reaffirmed Canada’s strong commitment to supporting Ukraine in its pursuit of lasting peace and security. Both leaders emphasised that a sustainable peace can only be achieved with Ukraine’s involvement in discussions.
Following a snap election marked by weeks of intense campaigning and a surprisingly tight contest, Mark Carney was elected as the new Prime Minister of Canada in March. On March 14, Carney was sworn in as the 24th prime minister of Canada, along with the 30th Canadian Ministry.
