Cargo vessel hit by unknown projectile off Yemen coast, UKMTO says
A cargo vessel in the Southern Red Sea suffered a hit from an unknown projectile off the coast of Al Mokha, Yemen, on August 11, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
UKMTO said the incident resulted in casualties. Authorities are investigating.
The agency advised vessels in the area to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO.
Earlier, an incident involving the Panama-flagged container ship Vela Nova and military forces has been reported in the Gulf of Oman.
UKMTO said on August 11 that it received a report of the incident but gave no further details. Maritime security sources said the vessel was believed to have been hit by a missile about 71 nautical miles (131km) off Pakistan’s coast.
Authorities are investigating, while UKMTO advised vessels in the area to remain alert.
