Caspian Sea facing serious environmental challenges Kazakh official says
Deputy Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan Zhandos Umiraliyev has expressed his concern over the environmental challenges facing the Caspian Sea.
"The Caspian Sea is a source of untold natural wealth, so it is so important to treat it with care," Umiraliyev said in his remarks at the meeting of representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Offices of the Caspian littoral states themed "Environmental Violations in the Caspian Sea: Prosecutor's Office Strategies for Protection of the Marine Environment", Caliber.Az reports.
According to him, the Caspian and Caspian littoral states are facing serious environmental challenges.
"This is a significant drop in sea level, global warming, oil spills, overfishing. We are ready to make efforts to find effective solutions to the problems, and the activities of the prosecutor's offices of the Caspian littoral countries play an exceptional role in this - because they have the necessary mandate to ensure legality in the field of environmental protection.
I am confident that the Caspian littoral states can demonstrate an example of successful interstate cooperation in the field of ecology," Umiraliyev emphasized.
