CENTCOM: US destroyers begin demining operation in Strait of Hormuz
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has launched an operation to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz.
Two guided-missile destroyers of the US Navy, USS Frank E. Petersen and USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112), passed through the strait and operated in the Persian Gulf as part of a broader mission aimed at fully clearing the waterway of sea mines previously laid by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Caliber.Az reports via CENTCOM.
CENTCOM commander Admiral Brad Cooper said the process of creating a new passage has begun, one through which commercial goods will again be able to move freely. The command also stated that additional US assets, including underwater drones, will join the demining operation in the coming days.
