A century-old water main burst in West Hollywood, California, causing severe flooding and bringing traffic to a standstill.
Emergency responders determined that the cause was a rupture in a pipeline operated by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Caliber.Az reports, citing The New York Times.
Officials said one person was swept away by the current but managed to escape without assistance and was not injured.
No other casualties have been reported. Authorities are assessing the damage to infrastructure, while no timeline has yet been announced for the completion of repair work.
Large volumes of water flooded streets and underground parking garages in residential buildings.
According to authorities, the water main was built in 1916.
