China accuses US of destabilising global nuclear order
China has accused the United States of being the main source of violations against the international nuclear order and undermining global strategic stability.
Chinese Defence Ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang made the statement on the ministry’s official WeChat page, as reported by TASS.
“A series of negative actions by the US in the field of nuclear arms control, including its withdrawal from international agreements, has become the biggest source of destabilisation,” Zhang said. He added that Washington possesses the world’s largest nuclear arsenal and adheres to a preventive doctrine for the use of weapons of mass destruction. According to Zhang, the US also finances related projects and has repeatedly indicated its intention to resume nuclear testing.
Zhang called on the United States to faithfully fulfil its obligations under the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and to comply with the current moratorium.
“The United States must take concrete measures to support the international nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation regime, ensuring global strategic balance and stability,” he concluded.
