China accuses US of misrepresenting its defence policy
China has accused the United States of distorting its defence policy in an attempt to undermine improving ties between China and India.
Speaking during a press briefing in response to a question about whether China might exploit the recent easing of tensions with India over disputed border areas to limit US-India relations, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasised that China views its ties with India from a strategic and long-term perspective, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He added that the border issue is a bilateral matter, noting that "we object to any country passing judgment about this issue."
The comments came in response to a Pentagon report released on December 23, which said China "probably seeks to capitalise on decreased tension ... to stabilise bilateral relations and prevent the deepening of U.S.-India ties."
An earlier draft report obtained by Reuters suggested that China may have deployed more than 100 intercontinental ballistic missiles across its three latest silo fields and showed little interest in arms control negotiations, highlighting Beijing’s growing military ambitions.
