China, Bahrain discuss Persian Gulf tensions, pledge cooperation
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone call on Monday evening with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani to discuss the escalating situation in the Persian Gulf, according to a statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, cited by Caliber.Az.
Al Zayani emphasised that Bahrain maintains a peaceful policy and should not be subjected to unlawful attacks. He thanked China for its position and expressed readiness to strengthen coordination with Beijing on bilateral and multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, to promote peace and stability in the region. Bahrain also assured it will continue to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and organisations within the country.
Wang Yi said China is seriously concerned about the escalation and stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, halting military actions, and returning to dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible.
He added that China will continue to play a constructive role in de-escalation efforts. A special Chinese government envoy on Middle East affairs is currently visiting the region and is also scheduled to visit Bahrain.
